- Develop and validate linear and nonlinear mathematical analysis and simulation models of air vehicle and subsystems using theory and test data including wind tunnel and flight test.
- Support the design of new and modified rotorcraft configurations from a stability control and handling qualities perspective.
- Perform wind tunnel pilot-in-the-loop flight simulation hardware in the loop laboratory and flight testing in support of vehicle design and analysis.
- Apply tools such as Matlab Unix and legacy and modern programing languages.
- Collaborate with test pilots and with engineers in other engineering disciplines such as aerodynamics dynamics avionics systems structural design and crew station design to optimize vehicle level characteristics.
- Occasional travel to support flight testing at off-site locations. These test sites could include cold weather sites high altitude sites or ships at sea. (Note: This typically requires a Driver’s License)

We seek an engineer to support development for various optical instruments being built within the Section. The position is for an optical designer role in the Optical Technology group. The optical designer will contribute to the design and analysis of telescopes cameras and imaging spectrometers. They will participate in developing novel telescopes spectrometers and cameras conduct detailed trade studies develop requirements and participate in large team studies:
- **Optical design trades**
- **Detailed optical analysis**
- **Development and maintenance of performance error budgets capturing sources from fabrication assembly and environments**
### **Qualifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Optics Physics or Electrical Engineering with 9 years of related experience or Masters with 7 years of related experience or PhD with 5 years of related experience.
- **Experience ray tracing in CODE V or Zemax.**
- Knowledge of multiple technical subject areas with significant expertise in technology development telescopes imaging spectrometers and lenses.
- **Experience making error budgets**
- Extensive understanding and wide application of sophisticated measurement principles theories concepts and techniques in definition design development and verification of complex technologies

We’re hiring a Vice President of AI to lead our company-wide AI strategy and execution. This is a rare role that combines deep technical vision with operational excellence high organizational visibility and cross-functional leadership. You’ll set the roadmap for how Duolingo applies artificial intelligence across our entire suite of learning experiences bridging applied research engineering and product with purpose and scale.
This leader will drive innovation and impact: applying cutting-edge research into magical user experiences scaling personalized learning and championing responsible AI. You’ll oversee our growing team of applied AI researchers engineers and others while partnering closely with senior leaders to shape the future of learning. ** You will...**
- **Set AI Strategy and Vision -** Develop and evolve Duolingo’s company-wide AI strategy spanning applied research infrastructure personalization and applications of generative AI.
- **Drive Real-World Impact -** Lead the development and deployment of AI solutions that directly power features used by millions.
- **Connect Applied Research and Product -** Through close collaboration create a strategy that translates applied AI research into production-ready measurable product innovations.
- **Build and Lead High-Performing Teams -** Recruit manage and grow a diverse world-class AI org with strong capabilities in applied AI research LLM integration MLOps and experimentation.
- **Shape Company Direction -** Act as a trusted thought partner to the CEO CTO CEngO and senior executives providing clear guidance on AI risks opportunities tradeoffs and timelines.
- **Champion Responsible and Ethical AI -** Ensure fairness privacy and explainability in all AI-driven features.
** You have...**
- 10+ years of experience in AI ML leadership including at the VP level in a fast-scaling technology company.
- Demonstrated success building AI products that support high-volume global users in a consumer or edtech context.
- Technical depth in one or more of: LLMs natural language processing (NLP) personalization.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams (applied research engineering product-facing) and fostering an inclusive mission-driven culture.
- Strong communication and influence skills. You are comfortable guiding both technical deep dives and executive decision-making.
- Passion for education and a track record of building for impact.
- PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science AI ML NLP or related discipline.
